Going Vegan to Be a Big Trend in 2018: Have You Tried Our Vegan Donuts?

From animal rights’ groups to One Green Planet to Forbes, everyone seems to agree on at least one thing this year – going vegan will be a big trend in 2018. Of course, veganism –eating only plant-based foods – isn’t new, but according to many different sources, this will be the year when veganism transitions from being on the fringe to becoming mainstream.

The Vegan Transition to Mainstream

What is the expected result of the vegan transition to becoming more mainstream? It will mean you can expect to find more vegan options just about everywhere this year – from your favorite grocery and retail stores to your favorite restaurants.  And it’s all because more consumers than ever are eating plant-based foods and seeking plant-based alternatives, not only in foods, but in other products they use as well. Recent research studies provide evidence to support this.

According to the results of a Nielsen study released last fall, the sales of plant-based foods increased by 8.1% from 2016 to 2017, with the total plant-based food market estimated to top $3.1 billion in sales. The study was commissioned by The Good Food Institute and the Plant Based Food Association.

According to separate research from 1010data, online searches for plant-based products tripled from 2016 to 2017. And consumers also purchased close to three times more plant-based products online last year than they did the previous year.

Innovative food manufacturers have figured out how to make all kinds of foods using plants only – including milks, cheeses and even meat substitutes. Our new gluten-free donuts are vegan too!

What Do Vegans Eat Again?

Vegans differ from other types of vegetarians in that they typically do not consume any animal-based products at all, and instead eat and use only plant-based products. Other types of vegetarians, on the other hand, may eat eggs or dairy only with the exception of eggs (lacto vegetarians).
