A New Bread Baking Robot Is Shaking Up the Industry

Getting freshly baked bread in 2019 should be the yeast of our problems. No company knows that better than the Wilkinson Baking Company, who recently unveiled the Bread Bot – a fully-automated bread baking robot at CES 2019. This miracle machine is capable of mixing, kneading, proofing, baking, and cooling 10 loaves per hour all by itself.

How Does It Work?

Get a loaf of this! The Bread Bot works through a multi-step process consisting of a conveyer belt, levers, and a huge funnel:

1. The baker or store employee pours the dough mix into the large funnel

2. The Bread Bot measures out the dough and mixes it with water and yeast

3. The machine kneads the dough into individual oval loaves

4. The loaves are put into their individual baking pans where the proofing begins

5. The bread is baked in the oven, which is set at around 395 degrees Fahrenheit (this temperature can be adjusted)

6. The baked bread loaves are put into the cooling chamber, which is visible to customers

7. The customer can select the bread they want with a sleek touchscreen and purchase it right there

8. The Bread Bot’s mechanical arm will grab the desired type of bread and hand deliver it to the customer like a vending machine

Going Against the Grain

The Bread Bot is an efficient, environmentally-friendly solution for supermarkets. Rather than purchasing bread from a wholesaler and paying for transportation, supermarkets can use the Bread Bot to bake fresh loaves right inside their store.   In addition, this fancy machine has the ability to bake multiple types of bread, allowing each customer to go home with their favorite. The options include white, whole wheat, nine grain, sourdough, and honey oat.   Stores worried about meeting consumer demand need not worry, as the Bread Bot can bake 10 loaves every hour.

The Price Tag

While there is no official price tag, it is estimated to cost supermarkets and other retailers alike about $100,000 for a five-year lease. As of now, there are no plans to release a compact version that one can purchase for their home (which would be amazing…), but this is still enough to make us want to go out and get that bread.
