Which Countries Consume the Most Bread?

A new article by Insider Monkey ranks countries based on how much bread is consumed by those living there. Below are the 10 countries with the highest bread consumption, along with the amount of bread consumed per person in a year. The United States did not make the list.  

  1. 1-Turkey – 230 lbs.
  2. 2-Bulgaria – 210 lbs.
  3. 3-Ukraine – 196 lbs.
  4. 4-Greece – 150 lbs.
  5. 5-The Netherlands – 137 lbs.
  6. 6-France – 126 lbs.
  7. 7-Germany – 123 lbs.
  8. 8-Belgium – 122 lbs.
  9. 9-Russia – 121 lbs.
  10. 10-Italy – 114 lbs.

What About Bread Consumption in the U.S.?

According to Statistica, which used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 157.87 million people in the U.S. consumed one loaf or package of bread per week; 90.43 million consumed two loaves/packages; 34.48 million consumed three-four loaves/packages; and 11.76 million consumed five or more loaves/packages. Just over 20 million consumed no bread.
